The Canadian Abilities Foundation (CAF) is proud to announce the recent publication of The Landscape of Literacy and Disability by Ezra B.W. Zubrow, Marcia H.Rioux, Christina K. Spielman. Mihaela Dinca-Panaitescu, Gail Kunkel and Allyson Marsolais (ISBN 978-0-9737126-3-6).
This is a report that definitively shows, using easy-to-read maps, the wide discrepancy of literacy between those with and without disabilities. It provides a critical look at hotspots across the country, underscoring the fact fact that this is a situation that needs to be addressed on an urgent basis. Difficult to locate statistical data is provided. The maps, created using Geographical Information System, enable researchers, social policy planners, educators and stakeholders an opportunity to look at a variety of factors associated with the unacceptable high rates of illiteracy among people with disabilities.
